Augusta Men's Basketball Hosts Annual Education Day Game Dec. 8

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 2 Augusta University men's basketball team hosts the annual Education Day Game on Thursday, Dec. 8. Over 2,100 fifth graders from Richmond County will attend the game for a special 11:00 a.m. tipoff in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jags host a single non-conference game against the Bowie State Bulldogs.

This year's event will be sponsored by Queensborough National Bank & Trust Co. ADMISSION IS FREE

"We are excited about having the education game back after a two year hiatus due to Covid," head coach Dip Metress said. "A special thanks to Queensborough bank for their sponsorship and get the ear plugs ready for us to have every 5th grader in Richmond county schools here to cheer on the Jags."

During halftime, Augusta University Athletics along with the College of Education and Human Development will honor the Richmond Country Teacher of the Year Shikara Willis. Willis has been an educator for 19 years and is a fifth-grade English language arts teacher at Charles T. Walker Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia. She received her specialist in advance studies certification from Augusta University. Currently Willis serves as an Augusta University clinical teacher, where she assists perspective educators as they complete their student teaching.
 
The men's game tips off at 11:00 a.m. and admission is free to all.  

Over 2,100 fifth graders from the Richmond County school system be in attendance as part of the annual holiday outing.
