DUE WEST, SC. – The Augusta Jaguars outlasted the Erskine College Flying Fleet in a non-conference doubleheader, winning 9-2 in game one and 16-12 in the second meeting on Thursday
Augusta is now 7-5 for the season.
Mary Tilman (3-3) made the start for Augusta and dealt 8 strikeouts while only giving up 4 hits.
Olivia Biles' 2 RBI double gave AU a 2-0 lead in the third.
Summer Frye extended the lead with a 2-score single to left field before
Emma Seagrave scored off an Erskine error and extended the lead to 5-0. Erskine carded a run off a stolen base in the fifth inning before
Kali Garrett homered in the 7
th.
Lauren Slade hit a sac fly in the 7
th to bring Augusta to 9 runs.
Olivia Biles and
Kali Garrett both went 3-4. Garrett carded 2 runs and Biles turned in two RBO.
Lauren Evens had 2 hits and 3 RBI in the game.
Ingle (1-2) struck out ten batters in her 7 innings and allowed 12 hits.
In game two, The Jaguars had a season high 17 hits for 16 runs. A huge first inning for the home team put Erskine in the lead 7-0. Augusta answered in kind, scoring 7 runs of their own in the second inning. Both team continued to rack up hits and runs in the second and third inning before AU managed to pull away in the final two innings of the doubleheader.
Maggie McBrayer made the game-two start for the Jaguars before she was replaced by
Lauren Evens (1.1 innings) and
Mary Tillman (4-3) for 5.0 innings.
Augusta hosts Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday February 19
th at 1pm.
