MARS HILL, NC – The Augusta University baseball team visited the Mars Hill Lions for a 3 game baseball series that started with a 2-8 loss on Friday and finished with two games on Saturday. The Jags fell 11-17 in game one and 3-5 in game two.

Augusta is now 5-6 on the season, while Newberry is now 5-8. The next game for the Jags is Wednesday at 2:00 PM at home on Jaguar Field against the West Georgia Wolves.

GAME 1
Â
In the first game of the series, the Jags were outhit by the Lions. Â
Walker Sinclair hit an RBI single in the first inning to get Augusta on the scoreboard early, but a 1
st inning 2-run homer by Mars Hill's Tyler Lala, followed by a 4-run second inning from the Lions put the Jags down early.
Pat Galvin's single up the middle in the 5
th inning helped plate a second run for Augusta but it would not be enough. Mars Hill was able to score another run in the 8
th, as the Lions took game one by a final score of 8-2. Â

GAME 2
Â
The first game of Saturday's doubleheader, and second game of the series, was a scoring fest for both teams. Once again, the Jags were able to get a run in the first inning, as
Ben Markiewicz hit a sacrifice fly to score
Mason Robertson. Scoring took off in the second inning, highlighted by a two RBI double by
Kyle LaRoche and a single by
Ben Markiewicz that scored one run. IT would be a 4-run inning for the Jags. Â Mars Hill answered with a high scoring second inning of their own - scoring 6 runs, followed by another 6-run inning in the 5
th, which included a Tyler Lala homerun. Entering the 7
th and final inning of the game, the Jags found themselves down by a score of 6-17 but refused to quit. A 2 RBI triple by
Jordan Wilkie kicked off the scoring, and another triple by
Pat Galvin that scored two runs continued it.
Ben Markiewicz was able to then single, giving him a 3 RBI hit. The Jags late rally would come up short giving Mars Hill an 11-17 victory.

GAME 3
Â
The final game of the day and the series so less runs. Augusta pitcher
Chase Horton threw seven strikeouts in his six innings of work in the game, while allowing 11 hits. The Lions started with a 3-run 2
nd inning, with three different RBI singles.
Jordan Wilkie and
Mason Robertson were able to bring the Jags within a run, after both singling in the 7
th inning and scoring a run a piece. However, a Tyler Lala homerun in the 7
th gave Mars Hill a 2 run lead. The home team won 5-3.
