WINGATE, NC – The Augusta University softball team visited the Wingate Bulldogs for a softball doubleheader on Thursday and dropped both games by a score of 4-8.Â
Augusta is now 2-2 on the season, while Wingate is now 2-0. The Jags travel to Salisbury, NC next for a doubleheader on Saturday against Catawba College, with games being at 12 and 2 PM.
GAME 1
Â
While Augusta had more hits in game 1 (10-8) the scoring could not keep up with Wingate. The Bulldogs started off by scoring 2 runs in the first inning, but Jags were able to match it in the second. Augusta catcher
Paige Patterson higlighted the offense for the Jags, going 3 for 3 with 2 home runs. A late Bulldog push let the home team take game 1 by a score of 8-4.
GAME 2
Â
In game 2, Wingate came out hot, as Savanna Brooks homered in the first and Laney McLaurin homered in the second. Brooks was able to homer again in the fourth inning, giving the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead over the Jags.
Summer Frye and
Bailee Roberts were able to hit home runs late but it was not enough to overcome the deficit, as the Jags lost 8-4 in for the second game of the day.Â
