NEWBERRY, SC – The Augusta University baseball team visited the Newberry College Wolves for a 3 game baseball series from Friday to Saturday. AU dropped a 4-5 contest Friday evening before falling 7-10 and 8-9 to close the series Saturday night.

Augusta is now 1-3 on the season, while Newberry moves to 3-0. The Jags return home for a game against Anderson University on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.

GAME 1
Â
The Jags started the series against Newberry with a thrilling game.
Ben Markiewicz started the scoring by homering in the first inning and again in third.
Mason Bernard pitched six innings of the game, striking out 7 batters. However, it was not enough as Braylin Marine was able to walk it off for the Wolves with a sac fly in the ninth inning, to give Newberry a 5-4 win.

GAME 2

The Saturday doubleheader started with a bang for the Jaguars.
Pat Galvin homered in the first inning giving them a 1-0 lead. It would be the only lead Augusta held in the game The Jags found themselves in a 2-10 deficit headed to the 7
th inning due to Newberry College's combined pitching of Tyler Chinpire and Scott Templeton, who had 10 strikeouts together. Augusta made a run late in the game, scoring 5 total runs in the 7
th and 8
th innings, but it would not be enough and the Jags dropped game 2 by a score of 10-7.

GAME 3
Â
The final game of the day and of the series was yet another thriller. With only 7 innings to play due to it being a doubleheader, Newberry College broke open the scoring early. The Jags were down 4-0 before a 5-run 4
th inning, which included a
Lukas Coker homerun and 4 RBI singles from various players. The back-and-forth scoring continued, until Newberry led 6-7 going into the final inning. A single by
Pat Galvin scored two runs for the Jags, giving them an 8-7 lead with the Wolves last at bat. A double by Henry French was able to score the walk off runs for Newberry and the Jaguars lost a heartbreaker with a final score of 9-8.
