#5 Jags Advance to Sweet Sixteen

From the PBC

AUGUSTA, GA – Behind a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds from Tyshaun Crawford, the Augsuta Jaguars advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Southeast Regional with an 82-76 win over UNC Pembroke on Sunday night. With the win, Augusta advances to the round of 16 and the right to play for a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Crawford, the PBC's co-Player of the Year, hit seven of 10 shots from the field and all seven of his free throw attempts to go with four blocks and a pair of assists. Miguel Arnold added 16, hitting 4-for-6 three-pointers, while Troy Cracknell and Tyree Myers scored 15 each.

Tyrell Kirk led the fourth-seeded Braves (27-4) with 18 points while Jordan Ratliffe scored 12 and Spencer Levi scored 12 with 10 boards.

The two teams traded the lead seven times with 11 ties. UNCP led at the break 40-34 but the Jaguars scored the first nine points of the second half to open up a three-point lead. The lead grew to as many as nine at 53-44 following an Arnold layup, but the Braves answered with a 10-3 run capped with a Spencer layin to cut the margin to two.

With under 10 minutes to play, the two teams tied or traded the lead six times, including at 71 points each with 1:28 to play. AU went back on top with a Crawford three-point play with 1:08 to go, but UNCP answered with a three from Tyrell Kirk to tie the score at 74 with 59 seconds left.

Augusta scored their final eight points from the free throw line, hitting eight for 10 as a team. Following two made free throws from Augusta's Tyree Myers with 36 seconds left that gave the Jags a two-point edge, UNCP turned the ball over on their ensuing possession. Myers then hit two more free throws for a 78-74 lead with 25 seconds left. The Braves missed both of their three-point attempts in the closing moments as Augusta went on to win by six.

The Jaguars return to the championship game for the first time since 2019 where they will face second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte, the team that defeated them in that 2019 final. Queens defeated third-seeded Lincoln Memorial 81-76 in Sunday's other semifinal match.

The winner of Tuesday's championship game advances to the NCAA Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind.
