AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta University baseball hosted a hosted the Columbus State Cougars this weekend for a three-game series. Columbus if off to a hot start – the Cougars are currently 23-4 and 8-1 in Peach Belt Play. Augusta falls to 7-16, 0-9 in conference place.

GAME 1
In game 1, AU took an early lead but wasn't able to sustain it past the 5
th inning.
A single by
Kyle LaRoche scored
Walker Sinclair before a home run from
Lukas Coker send Sinclair across home plate in the first inning, evening the score at 2. Augusta edged Columbus State in the third when
Lukas Coker hit another home for AU to bring the score to 4-2. A single from
Pat Galvin carded another run for the Jags, but a huge fourth inning for the visitors resulted in a 12-5 loss for AU.
Offensively, the Jags were led by
Lukas Coker who went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.
Mason Bernanard (1-5) started on the mound for Au.
Britt Kelly,
Cotton Phillips,
Darius Dunn, and
Nyle Grove all pitched in relief.
GAME 2
The first game of Sunday's double header proved a tough matchup as errors plagued the home team. Columbus State carded 17 hits in the matchup to Augusta's. The Cougars prevailed 14-0 after a loaded final three innings.

GAME 3
Augusta fell behind early in the third and final game of the series.
Jordan Wilkie and
Trevor Maddox carded multiple hits for Augusta yet the Jags fell 10-3 in the final game of the day.
All of Augusta's scoring took place in the third and fourth innings. Wilkie scored on an error from Columbus State's first baseman.
Trevor Maddox scored off of sacrifice fly from
Ben Markiewicz. The final Jaguar score came from a single from Maddox that scored
Harrison Aulds.
Chase Horton got the start, allowing 6 hits for 8 runs before
Eli McMullen came in to replace him.
