Jaguar Softball Wraps Rain Affected Series with FLagler

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted Flagler College on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, winning game 1 before losing the second and third games on Sunday.

Augusta is now 12-17 overall, 1-8 in conference play while Flagler moves to 15-12, 3-3 in the Peach Belt Conference.
 
The Jags travel to Columbus Friday March 25th. AU is slated to take on Columbus State at 5:00pm on Friday before starting their Saturday double-header at noon.
 
GAME 1

Augusta carded 8 hits to Flagler's 7 in the opening game of the series. Augusta got on the board first with a single home run in the first inning off of a double from Paige Patterson. A sacrifice fly in the third inning scored Madelyn Libby. Augusta pressed their advantage in the sixth with yet another one-RBI. Flagler answered with 2 runs in the final inning, but AU was able to hold on for the victory.


Jakayla Sullivan, Madelyn Libby, and Paige Patterson each had 2 hits for Augusta.

Mary Tillman (1-2) pitched all seven innings for the Jags and struck out four, while surrendering eight hits for two runs.
 
GAME 2
Both teams hit well in game two, with Flagler turning in 10 hits and Augusta turning in 8.
Both team tallied a single run to start the game. After the Saint hits a 4 RBI homer, the Jags shrunk the lead off of scores from doubles by Bailee Roberts and Shelbie Summerlin. A knotted the score at 5-5 after a sacrifice fly by Olivia Biles sent Shelbie Summerlin home. Augusta took a 6-5 lead after Summerlin scored on an error in the 6th, but three Flagler scores in the 7th closed the game at 8-6.

Shelbie Sumerlin led AU offensively, going 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and 2 runs.


Maggie McBrayer pitched six innings before Mary Tillman came in the finish out the final inning.
 
GAME 3
Flagler took a 1-run lead in the second inning, adding two more in the fourth. Augusta was able to card a run off of a Bailee Roberts double in the fourth. Flagler extended its lead to 9-1 in the seventh. Augusta was able to drive home four runs in the final inning of the game, but fell 9-4 to the Saints.
Mary Tillman pitched six innings before Maggie McBrayer tossed the final inning for AU.
