Jags Lose Late Lead in Loss to Pacers in Annual Rivalry Game

NORTH AUGUSTA. SC - After holding a late lead, the Augusta University baseball team dropped a heartbreaker to USC Aiken in their annual rivalry game at SRP Park. Augusta falls to 10-18 while USC Aiken moves to 12-18.

USC Aiken notched a single run in the first inning and two in the second inning to open up a 3-0 lead. The Jaguar offense exploded in the third inning, scoring five runs.

After Mason Robertson was walked and stole second, Ben Markiewicz was also walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Another walk loaded the bases. Two bases-loaded walks scored 2 runs for AU, forcing a Pacer pitching change. Another bases loaded walked tied the game at 3. A two-RBI single to center field form Jordan Wilkie gave Augusta a 5-3 lead.

USC Aiken answered with two runs on the fourth inning and two insurance runs in the seventh and eighth inning to steal the game.

Four different Jaguars turned in hits in the midweek contest.

Nyle Grove started on the mound for Augusta, turning in 2 innings of work. Six different Augusta pitchers, including Alex Brown (L, 3-5) pitched in relief.

Augusta has a short turn-around time in the jam-packed week, traveling to Lander April 1-2 for a weekend series.
