GREENWOOD, SC-. – The Augusta University baseball team dropped a 10-9 Peach Belt Conference game to the Lander Bearcats on Friday night
Augusta (10-19, 3-10 PBC) and Lander (15-16 6-7 PBC) were in a back-and-fourth duel all night. A final run by Lander in the bottom of the ninth gave the home team the win.
Augusta's
Mason Bernard started the game for AU on the mound and pitched 4.2 innings. Bernard struck out three batter and surrendered eight hits for five runs (four earned).
Pat Galvin,
Ben Markiewicz, and
Jordan Wilkie all had two hits in the matchup. Seven different Jags carded a hit in the opening game of the series.
Both teams were scoreless until each turned in a run in the third. Lander took a commanding lead after pouring in two runs in both the fourth and fifth inning. Augusta answered with a monster sixth inning that saw five Jaguar runs. Lander was able to combat the 6-5 lead with a four-run sixth inning of their own, retaking the lead 9-6. Augusta was able to put three runs in the board in the seventh inning to tie the game.
Neither team was able to pull ahead until a single by Lander's B. Davis pushed a run home.
AU continue its series with Lander tomorrow for a doubleheader at Dolny Stadium. First pitch is set for 2:00pm/
