AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Augusta University Baseball team split Friday's doubleheader at home to the visiting North Georgia Nighthawks. Augusta dropped the first game 7-1 before winning 5-2 in the second game of the day.
GAME 1
North Georgia jumped out quickly, using two solo homers to take an early 2-0 lead. After a RBI groundout in the third that pushed the Nighthawk lead out further, Augusta finally pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh on a North Georgia error. UNG scored the final run in the eighth inning.
Mason Bernard started pitching for the Jaguars, going 7 innings and striking out 6 batters.
Alex Brown and
Britt Kelly both pitched in relief.
GAME 2
After North Georgia opened the game with a home run, Augusta was able to even the score with when off a fielders in the third inning. The Nighthawks were able to retake the lead in the fourth inning off of an Augusta error in the top of the fourth.
AU gained momentum off a 2-RBI homer from
Harrison Aulds in the bottom of the same inning. Aulds came up big again with a 2-RBI double to secure the 5-2 Jaguar victory.
Harrison Aulds was a perfect 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and 2 runs.
Chase Horton tossed 6 innings and got the win for Augusta before
Jasper Dubberly pitched the final inning.
