YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Augusta University softball team dropped two Peach Belt Conference contests to the Young Harris Mountain Lions. After falling 8-0 in the first game, Augusta lost a slugfest 10-8 in the nightcap. Augusta moves to 13-25 overall, 2-16 PBC while Young Harris improves to 21-16, 12-9 in conference play
GAME 1
Augusta was unable to cool the hot bats of the home team. After capitalizing an on AU error, Young Harris pushed four runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding lead and wrap the game in five innings.
Bailee Roberts,
Paige Patterson,
Summer Frye, and
Aliyah Luke all carded this in the game.
Maggie McBrayer (5-11) pitched the full game for Augusta, allowing eight hits for eight runs in her four innings of work.
GAME 2
Game 2 was a back-and-fourth slugfest. AU opened scoring with a double to right field that scored
Olivia Biles in the first inning, after two answering runs from Young Harris,
Jakayla Sullivan hit a 3 run bomb to put Augusta up 4-2 in the second. Another double by
Bailee Roberts extended that lead to 5-2.
A 2-run double from the Mountain Lions closed the lead but a three-run fourth inning by the Jaguars put the score at 8-4.
Paige Patterson doubled down the left field line for a score,
Summer Frye single to right field for a score, and
Emma Seagrave had a sacrifice fly for a score in the stanza.
Young Harris was able to work its way back into the game and tie it up at eight. A two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh pushed the home team to a 10-8 victory.
Lauren Evens (0-3) pitched a complete game for Augusta, striking out five in here 6.2 innings of work.
Young Harris and Augusta will finish the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
