AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta University baseball team lost a late lead to drop a heartbreaker to Francis Marion in non-conference action. Augusta moves to 14-26 for the year while Francis Marion improves to 28-13.
Augusta collected 10 hits to Francis Marion's 14 in the game.
Mason Robertson was 3-for-4 with 2 runs.
Walker Sinclair was 2for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Harrison Aulds was also 2-for-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI.
Ben Markiewicz was 1-for-3 with 1 run and 4 RBI.
Augusta started off with a bang in the 1
st inning –
Walker Sinclair dinged a two run homer. The Patriots answered with a 5-run 2
nd inning. Augusta answered with a massive 2
nd inning of its own. After scoring on a bases-loaded walk,
Ben Markiewicz hit a grand slam to give AU a 7-5 lead.
Harrison Aulds hit a 2-run homer in the 6
th for a 9-6 Jaguar lead. Francis Marion racked up hits in the 8
th inning, knotting the game at 9-9 before taking a 10-9 lead. Augusta wwas able to card a run and tied the game at 10 off a wild pitch, but a 2-score single by Francis Marion in the 9
th inning sealed the game at 12-10.
Dominique Canale got the start for Augusta and pitched a single inning, allowing no hits. Nine different Augusta pitchers pitched in relief.
Jasper Dubberly (0-2) took the loss for the Jaguars.
Augusta takes its final road trip to Georgia Southwestern this Friday and Saturday for a 3 game series.
