Jags Split First Day of Florida Southern Volleyball Classic

LAKELAND, FL. – Augusta Volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) decision to Florida Southern in their second game of the FSC Volleyball Classic Friday evening.

Alexis Diaz-Infante paced Jaguars (1-1, 0-0 PBC) with 7 kills on 16 attacks, frequently providing the offensive spark. Dariana Luna had 13 digs while Kiera Barr had 12. Both Jada Suguturaga and Madelyn Eden had three blocks on the evening.

The match proved a game of managing runs. The Mocs used two six-point runs in the first set, a four-point run in the second and a five-point run in the third set to down the Jags. Often tying the game, the Jags struggled to contain the home team's offense late in each set.

Both teams battled back and forth in each of the three sets. The first set saw Augusta pull within one point of the Mocs but fell 25-18.  The second and third sets featured eight ties but only three lead changes.

The balanced offense shown by AU in the first game of the tournament was apparent in the second game of the day. Three players, Diaz-Infante, Abigail Levines, and Jordan Jerome, each had over five kills, while four other teammates contributed on the night with at least one kill.

The Jaguars finished with a .129 hitting percentage in the contest, tallying 28 kills on 25 assists.

Augusta plays its final game of the weekend against Lynn University tomorrow at 1pm. Live stats and video can be found at augustajags.com
