CAROLLTON, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team went the distance wth Valdosta State before falling to University of Montevallo in the second game of the day. The Jaguars move to 7-3 for the season after going 2-1 for the weekend.
GAME 1 vs Valdosta State
After dropping the first two sets to their Gulf South opponent, AU was able to turn the tide and win the next three sets to claim the match.
Jazmyn Wheeler turned in another impressive double-double, carding 18 kills to match her 18 digs.
Alexis Diaz-Infante and
Jordan Jerome both tallied double-digit kills, notching 11 and 12 kills.
Jada Suguturaga and
Madelyn Eden added eight kills apiece.
While both teams were virtually even in points, kills, blocks, and assists, Augusta held a 99-86 edge in digs for the match.
Kiera Barr continues to impress with 31 digs to lead the defensive effort. Three other Jaguars had over 10 digs.
Samantha Zittrauer led with 33 assists.
GAME 2 vs Montevallo
The final game of the crossover would also go the distance, with Montevallo claiming the five-set victory.
After having to shift their line-up due to injury, the Jaguars were able to take the first and fourth sets before falling 15-7 in the deciding set.
Middle hitters
Jada Suguturaga and
Alexis Diaz-Infante carried the offense, with 10 kills and 16 kills respectively.
Wearing the libero jersey for the first time this season,
Dariana Luna had 28 digs to anchor the defense.
