ST. AUGUSTINE, FL. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team outlasted Flagler in five sets. Four of the last six matches between the two teams have gone the distance, using all five sets to decide a victor. The Jags are 9-3, 1-0 PBC while Flagler falls to 5 -6, 0-3 PBC.
Augusta held a four-point lead midway into Set 1. Flagler went on a huge run to tie the game at 14 before pushing to a 20 -16 lead. The Jaguars again tied the score at 21 before costly errors gave the Saints a 25-23 victory in the set.
Augusta took a commanding 10-4 lead, but a 12-4 run by Flagler notched the game at 23. A kill by
Jazmyn Wheeler and an attack error by Flagler's Jordan Berglin gave AU the 28-26 victory in Set 2.
Augusta again jumped out to an early before Flagler was able to tie the game at 18. Flagler outscored Augusta 8-3 to close the set 25-21. The fourth set would remain close, with neither team leading by more than two points for the majority of the set. The Jags were able to close the set 25-23.
The fifth and deciding set of the match was all Augusta. The Jags jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Flagler was able to tie the game at 5, but an offensive spurt from Augusta to close the game secure the win in its conference opener.
Jazmyn Wheeler led all players with 20 kills and 14 digs, while
Alyssa Dutton added 10 kills.
Kayli Cleaver and
Alexis Diaz-Infante added 9 kills apiece.
Samantha Zittrauer and
Abigail Breeden both dished out 25 assists.
The teams will meet again tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
