AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team defeated non-conference opponent North Greenville on Friday morning with scores of 26-24, 25-23, 22-25, and 25-19 before battling for a five set win in the second match of the day.
GAME 1 vs North Greenville
Making her debut as a Jaguar,
Jazmyn Wheeler turned in a double-double, blasting 14 kills and 10 digs.
Alexis Diaz-Infante also turned in a double-digit kill performance. The preseason all-conference selection had 10 kills complimented by 3 aces. Abigail Levines and
Jordan Jerome had 8 kills and 7 kills respectively.
Kiera Barr had a breakout match, carding a career-high 27 digs.
Jada Suguturaga added 3 blocks to the defensive effort.
Abigail Breeden led with 21 assists.
Samantha Zittrauer had 18 assists.
The Crusaders were led by Kelli Davis' 16 kills.
GAME 2 vs Francis Marion
In what proved to be a marathon match, Augusta was able to close the final set of the five set match on top 15-12
Jazmyn Wheeler was again the bright spot for AU, tallying 23 kills to match 23 digs. The junior transfer also had 3 service aces and 2 solo blocks.
Jordan Jerome had 10 kills in the five set match. Five Jaguars had over five kills in the set.
Defensively, libero
Kiera Barr led with an impressive 28 digs.
Dariana Luna had 15 digs.
Samantha Zittrauer had 14 dig to match her 24 assists.
After winning the first two sets, Augusta dropped sets three and four by narrow two-point margins. The fifth and final set was just as tight, with a kill from
Kayli Cleaver and a service ace from
Dariana Luna sealing the win for AU.
Augusta returns to play at USC Aiken tomorrow to play Auburn University Montgomery at 12:30pm and Mount Olive at 5:30pm.
