PEMBROKE, N.C. – Heading on the road after a week off, the Augusta University volleyball team mirrored their last two performances as they took a three-set victory over UNC Pembroke on Tuesday evening. Augusta improves to 14-4, 4-1 while UNC Pembroke falls to 12-11.
Madelyn Eden and
Jazmyn Wheeler each recorded 12 kills to lead the Jaguars. Adding to her impressive .429 hitting percentage, Eden also had 6 blocks on the defensive end. Wheeler collected 13 digs to collect her tenth double-double of the season.
Dariana Luna matched her dig count with 13.
Ally Thees also tallied double-digit digs, turning in 11 in the three-set match.
Janvier Buggs dished 33 assists to lead the match. Four different Jaguars had an ace in the match.
The Braves were led by Vanja Przuli's 14 kills.
The home team started the match 3-0 before AU quickly answered with three consecutive kills from Wheeler. Both teams were point-for-point until a block from Wheeler and Eden sparked a 6-2 run late in the set. AU used two consecutive blocks to take the set 25-19.
Again, the Braves got out to an early lead. UNC Pembroke led 6-1 and extended the lead to 13-7 before a five-point AU run brought the Jags within one. A service ace from
Rylie Harris gave Augusta its first lead at 16-15. The Jaguars would hand on to win 25-22 in Set 2.
Set 3 saw Augusta rattle off seven straight points to take a 23-17 advantage late in the set. A kill from
Madelyn Eden gave the Jags the set victory and a 3-0 sweep.
Augusta returns to play two non-conference games in Greenwood on Oct 21. The Jaguars play Carson-Newman at 12:00 p.m. before playing Mount Olive at 4:0 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at augustajags.com
