AUGUSTA, Ga– The Augusta University baseball team defeated rival USC Aiken 5-1 in the annual Battle on the River. With the victory in the non-conference matchup, Augusta moves to 14-15 on the season.
Only one hit was recorded through the first five innings until a huge sixth inning for the Jaguars. Augusta plated all five runs in the sixth inning for a 5-0 lead. After Kyle Lodise walked and Pat Galvin reached on a catchers interference, consecutive singles from Kyle LaRoche, Jordan Willie, and Parker Ingram gave AU three scores.
LaRoche would score off a fielders choice that ended in with an error for USC Aiken's pitcher. A sac fly from Koby Ayala drove Parker Ingram home for the final Jaguar score of the day.
The Pacers would score one run in the bottom of the sixth, but AU would take home the victory.
J.R. Fordham earned the win for Augusta. The righthander went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out two.
Mason Bernard started the game for the Jags. He went one inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits and walking zero
Parker Ingram went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead AU in hits. Augusta didn't commit a single error in the field.
