Dominant Performances Push Jacobs, Augusta to Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship Titles

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Led by medalist Stefan Jacobs, Augusta University was dominant for 54 holes as the Jaguars won their first Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Hill Country Golf Club on Wednesday.

Augusta's score of 858 (6-under par; 282-281-295) was 14 strokes better than New Orleans in second place, marking the largest margin of victory at the SLC tournament since 2008.

FINAL SCORING DETAILS

Jacobs had five birdies Thursday, including three in the last four holes, to wrap up a 13-under par 203 (66-68-69), only one stroke off of the conference tournament record set in 1985 by Lamar's John Reigger (68-66-69, 202) and joining Reigger as the only two players in tournament history to shoot three rounds under 70.

Jacobs and the Jaguars will represent the Southland in the NCAA Men's Golf Championships as automatic qualifiers. This is Augusta's 23rd trip to the regional round of the NCAA Tournament and first as a Southland member.

Jacobs was joined on the all-tournament team by Charlie Forster of Southeastern (209, -7), Grant Sellers of Francis Marion (213, -3), and Grayson Gilbert of New Orleans, Angel Guerra of UIW and Behn Heyns of Augusta (215, -1).

Behn Heyns finished 1-under par to tie for fourth. Ian Pienaar and Hampus Wijkstrom both finished 5-over par for the tournament.

New Orleans claimed tournament runner-up honors at 872 (+8), followed by Lamar in third at 878 (+14) and UIW in fourth at 880 (+16).

Francis Marion moved up three spots in the final day with the only team round under par to finish in fifth at 882 (+18) ahead of Southeastern in sixth at 884 (+20), A&M-Commerce in seventh at 894 (+30), Nicholls in eighth at 897 (+33), Bryant in ninth at 899 (+35), and HCU in 10th at 906 (+42).

Augusta will learn its regional destination on Wednesday, May 3, with regional competition held on May 15-17.
