AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta University baseball team dropped a 7-6 game to USC Aiken before falling 3-6 in the second game of the day. Augusta is now 17-18, 10-13 PBC while USC Aiken retains their position at the top of the conference (25-11, 17-3).
In the first game of the evening, Augusta was on the wrong end of a 7-6 walkoff defeat. The Pacers were down 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning when they doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
AU collected 12 hits and USC Aiken had 13 in the high-scoring affair.
The Jaguars got things moving in the first inning, when Kyle Laroche singled scoring one run.
Parker Ingram followed with another one-run single. After adding another run in the third, USC Aiken got on the board with a home run in the bottom of the third.
Augusta scored three more runs in the fourth inning off a 3 RBI home run by
Kyle Lodise.
A home run buy the Pacers left AU with a 6-5 lead. The double from USC Aiken in the bottom of the ninth pushed them to the 7-6 win.
Mason Bernard started the game for Augusta. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out one.
Jasper Dubberly lasted 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one.
In the second game of the day, USC Aiken took an early 3-0 advantage. Augusta tallied three runs in the third inning. The offense was led by
Kyle Lodise and
Harrison Aulds, who all drove in runs
Aiken pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning off a solo homer.
Logan Howell started pitching and went five and a third innings, allowing six runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one.
Cody Shieder and
Turner Sircy both saw time out of the bullpen.
Lodise went 2-for-3 at the plate to the team in hits.
