Ting Named to Division I WGCA Freshman of the Year Watch List

 
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida – Augusta's Mirabel Ting is one of five golfers named to the Division I WGCA Freshman of the Year Presented by StrackaLine Watch List, which is awarded annually to the top freshman in Division I by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. The WGCA announced the list on Tuesday. The award will be announced after medal play at the upcoming NCAA Championship.
 
Ting is ranked No. 9 in the nation by Golfstat.com and No. 15 by Golfweek/Sagarin. She has competed in seven events this spring and recorded six top-10 finishes - including a victory in her first ever collegiate tournament at the Moon Golf Invitational. She followed up with a T5 showing at the Vystar, T14 at the Valspar, T7 at Florida State, and a T6 showing to close the regular season in Chattanooga, Tenn. Ting was then named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year, leading Augusta to its second consecutive conference championship. She then paced the Jags at the Athens regional, leading the team to its first ever NCAA National Championship appearance.
 
Ting and her teammates will open play at the 2023 NCAA Championships this Friday.
 
 
The WGCA Freshman of the Year Presented by StrackaLine is awarded annually to the top Freshman in Division I women's golf and is selected by a prestigious collection of women's collegiate golf coaches. Freshmen must have competed in a minimum of 15 competitive rounds to be considered.

  • Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn, FR, Iowa State University. Adjusted scoring average of 71.04. She has six top-five finishes, including a win at the Mountain View Intercollegiate where she broke the NCAA record for lowest 54-hole score.
  • Mackenzie Lee, FR, Southern Methodist University. Averaging 71.56 and has eight top-five finishes, including a win at the Hurricane Invitational. She finished in a tie for third place at the NCAA San Antonio Regional.
  • Mirabel Ting, FR, Augusta University. Leads Division I freshmen with a 70.96 adjusted scoring average. She has six top-10 finishes, including a win in her first collegiate tournament at the Moon Golf Invitational. She was named both the Southland Conference Player and Freshman of the Year.
  • Lottie Woad, FR, Florida State University. She has a 71.09 adjusted scoring average and has six top-five finishes, including wins at the Ivy Intercollegiate and Florida State Match Up.  She was named ACC Freshman of the Year.
  • Jeneath Wong, FR, Pepperdine University. Averaging 71.76 with four top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.
