AMERICUS, Ga-After scoring a single run in the first inning, the Augusta University baseball watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 11-4 loss to Georgia Southwestern on Friday. Georgia Southwestern took the lead on a home run in the first inning.
The Jaguars struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Hurricanes giving up 11 runs.
PBC Freshman of the Year Kyle Lodise showed his prowess early, hitting a solo homer to open the game. A three-run homer from the home team in the bottom of the inning gave Georgia Southwestern a lead it wouldn't relinquish all game.
Augusta put up three runs in the fifth inning. The Jags big bats in the inning were led by a home run by Lodise and a fielder's choice by Jordan Wilkie. Â Georgia Southwestern scored four runs in the sixth inning off a grand slam by Chris Patterson.
Mason Bernard took the loss for AU. He allowed seven hits and six runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one.Â
Augusta knocked two home runs on the day. Lodise went for the long ball in the first and fifth innings.
Augusta totaled seven hits in the game. Lodise and Koby Ayala each had two hits.Â
