Augusta Tops Clayton State in Third Annual 'Stuff the Stadium-Teddy Bear Toss' Game

AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta University men's basketball picked up its first conference win with a 73-61 win over the visiting Clayton State Lakers. Augusta is now 8-5, 1-2 PBC while Clayton State falls to 5-8, 1-2 PBC.

After opening the game with a tribute to slain former basketball player Tyvez Monroe, AU’s biggest crowd of the season waited anxiously to toss their new stuffed animals on the court after the first Jaguar-made bucket. The special moment came off a jumper from Demitri Gardner two minutes into the game. 

AU used a balanced offense to pick up their first conference win of the season. Gardner led with 15 points, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Senior David Viti used timely buckets to add 13 points. Freshman Zyere Edwards hit three triples and went 3-for04 from beyond the arc and 4-5 from the field to score 12 points. John St. Germain III scored 11 points and picked three steals. Ja’Queze Kirby and Maximillian Amadasun led the rebounding effort with 9 boards apiece. 

 

Augusta hosts USC Aiken on Saturday, Jan 13 at 3:30pm. Live stats and video will be available at augustajags.com. The game also serves as the inaugural Gold Star Family Game.
