AIKEN, SC – The Augusta University volleyball team (11-3, 1-1 PBC) faced a tough battle against rival USC Aiken (11-2, 3-0 PBC), ultimately falling in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) at the Convocation Center in Aiken, South Carolina.
Despite a hard-fought effort, Augusta struggled to overcome USC Aiken's balanced attack. The Jaguars were led by
Layne Witherspoon, who recorded 8 kills and added 3 blocks, while
Madelyn Eden added 6 kills and 6 blocks, while
Jacklyn Simms contributed 6 kills and 5 blocks.
Sophia Kruczko chipped in with 4 kills, and
Marin Freeland recorded 4 kills and 1 block.
Janvier Buggs led the team with 15 assists and 10 digs, while
Giulia Rodrigues anchored the defense with a match-high 15 digs. The team hit .109 overall, compared to USC Aiken's .135.
Each set remained highly competitive, with both teams trading points and playing through multiple ties and lead changes. Augusta fought back late in the second and third sets, but Aiken held strong to secure the win.
With the loss, Augusta now moves to 11-3 on the season and 1-1 in Peach Belt Conference play.
