GREENWOOD, SC – The Augusta University volleyball team (17-6, 4-4 PBC) concluded their Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 3-0 loss to Lander University (19-4, 6-1 PBC) on Wednesday at Horne Arena. Lander won with set scores of 25-15, 29-27, and 28-26, narrowly edging AU in a close match.
After a challenging first set, Augusta found momentum in the second, pushing Lander to 29-27 with 18 ties and eight lead changes. In the third set, Augusta continued to battle, with blocks from Madelyn Eden and Jada Suguturaga pushing the set to another tight finish at 28-26.
Sophia Kruczko led Augusta's offense with 12 kills on a .250 hitting percentage and contributed 5 digs. Jacklyn Simms added 9 kills, hitting at .300, while also recording 4 digs and 2 blocks. Layne Witherspoon contributed another 9 kills with a .280 hitting percentage, along with 3 blocks. Setter Marah Zenner facilitated the attack with 28 assists and added 7 digs. Defensively, Rylie Harris anchored the back row with 15 digs and contributed 2 service aces. Jada Suguturaga and Madelyn Eden were strong at the net, each tallying 4 blocks to bolster the Jaguars' defense.
