MELBOURNE, FL.– The Augusta University baseball team split their double-header at Florida Tech on Friday, Feb. 16.
In game one, the Jaguars went with ace Mason Bernard on the mound. Bernard went 3.1 innings allowing 11 hits and five runs.
Three of those were allowed in the first two innings as Florida Tech jumped on the Jaguars early with two home runs and an RBI single.
It didn't take long for Augusta to answer back, taking the lead in the third inning. PBC Player of the Week Parker Ingram got the scoring going with a double, driving in Dylan Wanat. The next two came off the bats of Koby Ayala and Mike Morrison, both were singles. The final run of the inning that brought the Jaguars a 4-3 came off of a fielder's choice hit by Brady Loughren.
Florida Tech tacked on two in the fourth to take a 5-4, but after Bernard was pulled after surrendering his fifth run. Britt Kelly came in and immediately changed the tempo of the game. nged.
Jordan Wilkie tied the game in the fifth with a RBI double and Harrison Aulds scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to take a late 6-5 lead.
Britt Kelly finished it out on the mound to give the Jaguars their first road win. Kelly's line ended at 5.2 innings allowing four hits, zero runs, and striking out four batters.
Both Ayala and Morrison led the Jaguars at the plate, going two for four with a RBI each.
Game two, the Jaguars crossed the plate first in the second inning on a Brady Loughren sacrifice fly.
In the fourth inning the Jaguars made their lead even larger on a string of hits by Loughren, Kyle LaRoche, Jordan Wilkie, and Dylan Wanat. Each knocked one run a piece, giving the Jaguars a 5-0 lead.
Florida Tech cut into the Jaguar lead in the bottom half with three runs of their own and then plated another in the fifth, making it 5-4.
The Jaguars took their lead into the seventh, the final inning of this game.
Florida Tech loaded the bases with one out and tied the game on a wild pitch by Augusta's Grant Lester.
Lester walked the next batter to load the bases again and three pitches later Florida Tech walked it off for the 6-5 win.
Will Cantrell started the game on the mound for Augusta going four innings, surrendering three runs on five hits, and striking out seven.
Koby Ayala kept his hot day going with two hits again in this one. Dylan Wanat also carded two hits and 1 RBI in his three at bats.
The Jaguars will take on Florida Tech again tomorrow for the decisive game three of the series at 12 p.m.
