COLUMBUS, GA – The Augusta University softball team dropped two Peach Belt Conference games to Columbus State on the road Saturday afternoon. AU is now 12-20, 2-9 PBC while Columbus State improves to 18-12, 10-2 inside conference play. The Jags will wrap the series with a final game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
The home team used three home runs in the first inning to explode for eight of their ten runs on the day. The Jags were never able to recover, falling 10-0 in the five-inning game.
Ansley Gibson (1-3),
Madalyn Spinks, and
Alissa Bolinger each saw time on the mound.
Augusta's offense was stifled in the second game by Columbus State's Jessica Lopez and Khloe Shears. The Jags only registered two hits in the six-inning contest.
In game 2, Columbus State scored single runs in the first and second innings to gain control of the game before driving in five runs in the fourth inning. The home team would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth to close the game.
Bobbi Poff and
Grace Bridges both registered hits.
Madalyn Spinks (4-4) got the start and pitched 3.1 innings before
Alissa Bolinger tossed the final two 2.1 innings. Bolinger allowed four hits while striking out two.
