COLUMBUS, GA – The Augusta University softball team dropped a 7-5 decision in the third and final game of a PBC series with Columbus State. Augusta is now 12-21 overall and 2-10 in PBC play. Columbus State retains its position near the top of the conference with an 11-12 overall record (10-2 PBC). Augusta will host USC Beaufort March 22-23 for a three-game series.
Augusta got off to a strong start, capitalizing on an error by Columbus State's first baseman for a score in the first inning.
Lauren Evens also doubled to left center in the inning, plating
Bailee Roberts and
Bobbi Poff. CSU immediately answered in the bottom of the inning with a 3 RBI triple and a bases-loaded walk for a 4-3 score.
The Cougars added single runs in the third and fifth. In the sixth inning, Cadence Winder doubled down the left field line for two scores to bring the Jags within one run. Columbus State scored the final run of the game off a single in the sixth inning.
Roberts was 2-for-3 with 1 run in the game. Evens went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI and Winder was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Freshman
Madalyn Spinks (4-5) got the start.
Alissa Bolinger pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 6 hits for three runs while striking out two batters.
