AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta University baseball team defeated Claflin 5-2 in the first game of the series before turning in a dominant 18-1 win over the visiting Panthers in the second game of the day. Augusta improved to 15-11 overall, 5-2 PBC. The Jaguars will host Claflin on Sunday for the final game of the series. The first pitch has been moved up to 11:30 am.
Game 1 – Augusta 5 Claflin 2
The Jags got on the board in the first inning when
Kyle Lodise homered to left field, scoring two runs. AU added another run off a single from
Harrison Aulds in the second inning.
Koby Ayala added another run in the bottom of the fourth off a solo home run. A single to center field from
Jake Vachon in the fifth inning scored
Parker Ingram for the final AU run in the game.
Will Cantrell led things off on the mound, allowing one hit and one run over six innings while striking out nine batters.
Aedan Cates,
Blythe Keisler, and
Britt Kelly all saw time pitching in relied. Kelly registered his third save of the season.
Aulds and Ayala each collected two hits for AU. Lodise led with 2 RBI.
Game 2 – Augusta 18 Claflin 1
Loside had a monster second game, driving in seven runs on two hits to lead Augusta past the Panthers in seven innings. Lodise hit a grand slam to center field in the third inning and doubled in the second inning for two more runs. He walked in his seventh run in the fourth inning.
AU scored early in the bottom of the first off a single from Aulds and a double from
Zach Kwiatkowski, each scoring one run. Lodise's double extended the lead to 4-0.
AU added six more runs in the third inning off of three hits. Luke Shain scored off a single and
Dylan Wanat drew a walk before Lodise's grand slam. The Jags would go on to score six more runs in the fourth, capped by a ground out from
Jackson Thomas that plated
Dylan Wanat. Singles from
Trevor Maddox and
Ty McClintock added the final two runs of the game.
Robert Hunt(2-2) got the start, pitching the first 5.0 innings and striking out nine batters.
Marshall Flowers and
Grant Lester each pitched an inning in relief.
