AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta softball team used a seven-run sixth inning to come from behind and defeat USC Beaufort Monday afternoon. The win gives AU the PBC series victory. Augusta is now 14-22, 4-11 PBC. The Jags will travel to Georgia College March 29-30 for a three-game PBC series.
After the Sandsharks scored two in the first inning,
Lauren Evens hit a 2 RBI homer in the second to even the score.
A home run from Beaufort sparked another three runs. The Jags headed in the bottom of the sixth inning down 5-2. The Jags were able to string together seven straight runs in the inning for the come-from-behind win in the rubber match.
The Jags punched in a run off a bases-loaded wild pitch. After two bases-loaded walks evened the score,
Bobbi Poff doubled to left field, scoring
Grace Bridges and
Aliyah Luke.
Bailee Roberts doubled to right field for a 9-5 score and the AU victory.
Boff and Roberts carded multiple hits in the game. Roberts was 2-for-3 with 1 run and 2 RBI while Poff was 2-for-4 with 1 run and 2 RBI. Evens used a home run in one of her two at-bats for 2 RBI.
Madelyn Spinks (5-5) got the win and started on the mound for AU. The freshman allowed six hits in her 6.0 innings of work.
Hannah Turner pitched the final inning.
