AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta University softball team split a doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern, winning game one 4-3 in 12 innings and losing game two 8-0 in six innings on Sunday. Augusta moves to 10-13, 2-4 PBC while Lander is now 14-4, 4-2 in conference.
Game One
- Lauren Evans began the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
- Georgia Southwestern cut Augusta's lead to one run after RBI single in the top of the third.
- Bailee Roberts hit the Jaguars second homerun of the game in the bottom of the third inning, making the score 3-1.
- The Hurricanes tied the game in the top of the fourth 3-3 with a RBI triple and single.
- Both teams remained scoreless until Bailee Roberts hit her second homerun of the game, walking off game one in the top of the 12th inning.
- Madalyn Spinks pitched all 12 innings for the Jaguars, giving up 13 hits and striking out 4 batters.
Game Two
- Georgia Southwestern hit a two-run homerun to take a early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
- The Hurricanes added one more run in the third and three more in the fifth inning after another homer. Georgia Southwestern hit their third homerun of the game in the sixth inning, making the score 8-0.
- Ansley Gibson pitched all six inning for Augusta, giving up 11 hits and striking out two batters.
Augusta Softball will play another doubleheader in a non-conference game against Lees-McRae College at Jaguar Field Monday, March 4. Game one will begin at 1 p.m., followed by game two at 3 p.m.
