Softball Earns Walkoff Win to Split with Lees McRae

AUGUSTA, GA The Augusta University softball team split with the visiting Lees-McRae Bobcats Monday afternoon. After dropping Game One 13-0, the Jaguars rebounded with a 6-5 win in extra innings. AU is now 11-14 overall. The Jaguars will travel to Catawba on Tuesday to continue a jam-packed stretch before traveling to take on No. 1 North Georgia March 8-9 for a three-game PBC series.

In the first game of the day, Augusta struggled offensively, only registering four hits to LMC's 14. Bobbi Poff, Lauren Evens, Lauren Barrett, and Grace Bridges each carded a hit.
From Lee-McRae's A. Johnston had a huge outing, going 2-for-3 for 2 runs and 3 RBI.

Alissa Bolinger (3-5) got the start, tossing the first 3.1 innings. Hannah Turner and Ansley Gibson both saw time on the mound in the contest.

In the second game of the day, both offenses came out firing.  The Bobcats used a 2 RBI homer to get on the board first. In the bottom of the inning, singles from Ansley Gibson and Lauren Evens evened the score at 2-2. LMC tacked on three more runs over the next two innings, but AU would not go quietly.

After a double from Cadance Winder and a sac bunt that put Winder in scoring position, a sacrifice fly from Sophie Baker plated Winder for a 5-3 score.  A timely triple from Bailee Roberts in the bottom of the fifth inning evened the score at 5-5.

Using the international tie-break rule in the eighth inning, Lauren Slade capitalized on a wild pitch for the walk-off win.

Roberts was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead Augusta. Maggie McBrayer got the start, allowing six hits for five runs before Ansley Gibson (3-3) closed the game and picked up the win.
