MILLEDGEVILLE, GA - The Augusta University softball team defeated Georgia College in the third and final game of the series on Saturday afternoon. The Jags won 9-7 and improve to 15-24 overall, 5-13 PBC.
Augusta returns to play April 6-7 when they host cross-town rival USC Aiken for senior weekend.
In the top of the first, AU carded a run off a bases-loaded walk before
Paige Patterson hit a sac fly to center field that scored
Lauren Slade.
GCSU hit a 2 RBI homer in the bottom of the first to even the score at 2-2. IN the second inning, a double from
Grace Bridges, a single from
Bailee Roberts, and a sac fly from
Paige Patterson added three more Augusta runs.
GCSU narrowed the lead again off another 2RBI homer before a huge fifth inning saw AU added four runs. Patterson and
Lauren Evens both doubled for three runs and Lauren Barret came home off an error by the third baseman.
The Bobcats fought back in the fourth and sixth innings, but AU hung on for the lead.
Patterson led the team with 4 RBI.
Bobbi Poff, Roberts, Bridges, and Evens all had multiple hits in the game.
Ansley Gibson (4-6) got the start on the mound and picked up the victory. Gibson allowed seven hits and six runs on her 4.0 innings of work.
Alissa Bolinger tossed the final 3.0 innings.
