AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta University softball team swept rival USC Aiken in a PBC doubleheader to kick off senior weekend. Augusta is now 17-24, 7-13 in conference play. The Jags, in the hunt for a PBC tournament berth, will face USC Aiken for one final game on Sunday, April 7 at 3:00 pm
Game 1 – Augusta 5 USC Aiken 4
A walkoff run off a single from
Bailee Roberts sealed the 5-4 victory for the Jags. USC Aiken struck first off a home run and a sac bunt in the second inning for a 2-0 score. Cadence Winder answered with a solo homer of her own in the bottom of the inning. The Pacers added two more runs off a 2 RBI homer in the fourth. Again, AU answered with a double from
Sophie Baker that scored
Lauren Evens and Winder. A sac fly from Roberts evened the score at 4-4 in the fifth before her single in the seventh gave AU the 5-4 win.
Baker paced the Jaguar offense, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Alissa Bolinger pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing four hits for four runs. Freshman
Madalyn Spinks (6-6) pitched the final 3.2 innings in relief and picked up the win, striking out three batters.
Game 2 – Augusta 4 USC Aiken 2
In the second game of the day, timely hitting in the first two innings gave AU an early 4-0 lead. A bases-loaded single from Baker in the first inning plated
Paige Patterson. In the second inning, Patterson doubled to score
Grace Bridges before doubles from
Bobbi Poff and Roberts gave AU the 4-0 advantage.
The Pacers tacked on two runs, but the Jags would hold on to win 4-2. Spinks 7-6) picked up her second win of the day while
Ansley Gibson registered her first save of the year.
Poff and Roberts both registered multiple hits and an RBI in the game.
