Augusta Softball Snags Two Wins Over Southern Wesleyan

AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta University softball team snagged two wins over Southern Wesleyan at home at Jaguar Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Jags cruised to a 7-1 victory in the first game of the day before battling for a 7-6 win in extra innings.
 
Game 1 – Augusta 7 SWU 1

Bobbi Poff opened scoring after doubling to center field and scoring Grace Bridges. A double from Bailee Roberts scored Poff for a 2-0 lead.
A huge fourth inning saw Augusta bat through the entire lineup and score five runs.

After two AU singles and an error from the Warriors, a bases-loaded single from Bridges pushed the score to 3-0. Two more bases-loaded walks extended the lead to 5-0. Robert hit a single to plate Bridges before Cadance Winder hit a sac fly for the seventh and final Jaguar run.

Roberts went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead Augusta's offense. Poff also registered 2 RBI. Brides and Lauren Barrett also had multiple hits.

Freshman Madalyn Spinks picked up her eighth win of the season, pitching 4.0 innings and striking out three batters. Ansley Gibson closed the game, allowing four hits and one run.
 
Game 2 – Augusta SWU 6

Southern Wesleyan struck first with a 2 RBI homer in the first inning. AU added a run in the second off a double from Cadance Winder.  A sac fly from Aliyah Luke in the fourth inning pushed the score to 3-2. The fifth inning saw two runs from the visiting team before the Jaguars used steady offense to card four runs in the fifth inning.

With teams tied at 7-7, Ryan Hanson singled up the middle of the field to score Aliyah Luke and take the 7-6 victory.

Ryan Hanson was 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run to push AU to the win.
 
Alissa Bolinger started on the mound before Hannah Turner pitched in relief. Ansley Gibson (5-6) picked up the win, striking out to batter in 3.1 innings of work.
 
Augusta travels to Flagler April 20-21 to close the regular season. The results of the weekend series will determine seeding for the PBC Conference tournament.
