DAHLONEGA, GA - The Augusta University baseball team dropped a PBC game to open its series against the University of North Georgia. In a battle of the top teams in the conference, Augusta fell 4-2 to the Nighthawks. The Jags are now 21-15 overall, 10-6 PBC while North Georgia improves to 23-11, 10-5 PBC. The two teams face off in the second game of the series on Saturday, April 6 at 3:00 pm.
The home team scored three of its four runs in the first inning and tacked on another run in the fourth inning off a sac fly to center field. In the seventh inning with runners on second and third,
Zach Kwiatkowski grounded out to the shortstop, plating
Kyle LaRoche.
In the ninth inning,
Nolan Turner singled to left field, pushing
Parker Ingram home for the final score of the game.
Mason Bernard (1-1) started on the mound and pitched 6.0 innings, allowing six hits for four runs. Blythe Kessler tossed the final 2.0 innings.
Kwiatkowski and Turner both turned in RBIs.
Jake Vachon went 2-for-3 to pace AU offensively. Both teams collected eight hits.
