AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta University softball team dropped the third and final game of its Peach Belt Conference series against USC Aiken. The Jags are now 17-25, 7-14 overall. Augusta travels to Young Harris on April 10 for a nonconference double header.
The Pacers used a huge second inning to put five runs on the board. After USC Aiken added another run in the third inning,
Bobbi Poff singled to center field to plate
Grace Bridges.
In the sixth inning, AU mounted a furious comeback that fell just short of tying the game. With bases loaded,
Paige Patterson capitalized on a wild pitch for a score.
Cadance Winder then hit a sac fly that scored Poff and pushed the score to 6-3. A single from
Lauren Slade added the third run of the inning. A successful sac bunt from
Shelbie Summerlin recorded the final AU score. The Jags would fall 6-5.
Slade went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI while Poff was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run. Patterson, Winder, and
Lauren Evens also registered hits in the game.
Senior
Maggie McBrayer got the start for Augusta, pitching 1.0 innings.
Madalyn Spinks pitched the next 2.0 innings in relief before
Ansley Gibson pitched the final 4.0 innings – striking out three batters and allowing three hits.
