FLORENCE, S.C. – Augusta volleyball dropped a straight-set decision on the road Tuesday night, falling 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 to Francis Marion inside the Smith University Center. The Jaguars move to 17-4 overall but remain unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play at 7-0.
Francis Marion's offense proved efficient from the start, hitting .256 in the opening frame and .277 for the match. Augusta kept each set close, including a second frame that featured multiple ties before the Patriots closed on a late 4–1 run.
Lauren Nelson and Layne Witherspoon each contributed eight points for Augusta. Nelson finished with seven kills, while Witherspoon totaled five kills, two aces, and two block assists. Lauren Posa posted an efficient .450 hitting percentage with 11 kills on 20 swings, and setter Mia Saavedra tallied 21 assists with seven digs. Sofiia Snitsarevych added eight kills and six total blocks, while libero Giulia Rodrigues collected 15 digs in the back row.
As a team, Augusta finished with 34 kills and six total blocks, holding the Patriots to under 15 kills per set in the loss.
The Jaguars continue non-conference play on Thursday, Oct. 23, traveling to Middle Georgia for a 6 p.m. matchup.
