Augusta Sweeps Middle Georgia, Rallies Past Lees-McRae to Stay Perfect in Peach Belt Play

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team continued its strong run at home on Saturday, earning a pair of victories inside Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars swept Middle Georgia State in straight sets before mounting a comeback win over Lees-McRae in five. With the results, Augusta improved to 20–4 overall and remains perfect at 9–0 in Peach Belt Conference play.

In the first match of the day, Augusta controlled the tempo from start to finish, taking down Middle Georgia State 3–0 (25–19, 25–21, 25–17). The Jaguars hit an impressive .326 as a team and recorded 43 kills while holding the Knights to a .173 attack percentage.

Setter Mia Saavedra led the way with 13 kills on a .579 hitting percentage to go along with 16 assists and two service aces. Sofiia Snitsarevych continued her consistent production with nine kills and two blocks, while Layne Witherspoon added five kills and four total blocks. Middle hitter Angela Mateos was efficient in the middle with five kills on .143 hitting and a pair of blocks. Giulia Rodrigues finished with 10 assists and eight digs, and Sydney Harrington chipped in 13 assists and six digs.

Augusta returned to the court later in the afternoon and battled through a five-set victory over Lees-McRae, 3–2 (14–25, 23–25, 25–14, 25–3, 15–12). After dropping the first two sets, the Jaguars regrouped and delivered one of their most dominant stretches of the season, limiting the Bobcats to just three points in the fourth frame and hitting .632 as a team in the set.

Lauren Nelson led the offense with 17 kills and three service aces on a .469 hitting percentage. Sofiia Snitsarevych followed with 11 kills and eight blocks, and Angela Mateos added five kills with seven blocks in the middle. Rodrigues anchored the defense with a team-high 19 digs and also served seven aces, while Saavedra posted another double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs. Layne Witherspoon chipped in six kills and three blocks, rounding out a balanced team effort.

Augusta finished the match with 51 kills, 22 blocks, and 10 service aces, while holding Lees-McRae to just a .044 team hitting percentage.

The Jaguars, who have now won three straight matches, return to Peach Belt Conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they host UNC Pembroke at 6 p.m. inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.
