ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Augusta University volleyball team dropped its first Peach Belt Conference match of the season on Friday night, falling 3–0 to Flagler at Flagler Gym. The Jaguars move to 21–5 overall and 9–1 in conference play, while the Saints improve to 15–11 and 8–2 in the league standings.
Flagler came out strong, taking the match by set scores of 25–16, 25–23, and 25–19. Augusta hit .133 as a team while Flagler finished with a .327 mark, using an efficient offense and steady first contact to control tempo throughout the evening.
Mia Saavedra paced the Jaguars with eight kills, three aces, and a block assist while hitting .227. Layne Witherspoon followed with five kills and three block assists, and Angela Mateos added three kills and two blocks in the middle.
Setter Sydney Harrington tallied 21 assists and six digs, while Giulia Rodrigues recorded 10 digs and a pair of aces from the service line. Lauren Nelson contributed five kills and six digs, and Sofiia Snitsarevych finished with two kills and two block assists.
The Saints were led by Marley Middlebrooks, who totaled 16 kills on .367 hitting, and Clare Sheedy, who dished out 33 assists to direct a Flagler offense that hit above .300 in all three sets.
Augusta will look to bounce back on Saturday when it faces Flagler again at 3 p.m. in St. Augustine.
