Madison Thomas and Nasrudin Mohamed Named Georgia’s Own Student-Athletes of the Month

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University cross country runners Madison Thomas and Nasrudin Mohamed have been named the Georgia's Own Student-Athletes of the Month for September. The Georgia's Own Student-Athlete of the Month Award honors one male and one female Augusta University student-athlete from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.

Madison Thomas – Women's Cross Country

Thomas, a senior from Hephzibah, Ga., earned Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Week honors twice in September — the only two meets she competed in. She finished 47th overall at the Queen City Invitational in a deep Division I field, posting a 5K time of 18:30.22 to lead Augusta. Two weeks later, she claimed the individual title at the Bobcat Invitational, crossing the line in 19:22.83 to help the Jaguars secure their first team victory of the season. Thomas currently holds the top 5k time in the PBC this season


Nasrudin Mohamed Student-athlete of the month

Nasrudin Mohamed – Men's Cross Country

Mohamed, a senior from Lilburn, Ga., was also named Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Week twice during September. He opened the month with an eighth-place finish at the Queen City Invitational, running 25:08.4 — the fastest 8K time in the PBC this season — as Augusta placed third overall and finished as the top Division II program. Mohamed followed with an individual win at the Bobcat Invitational, covering the 8K in 25:44.36 to lead Augusta to the team championship with 28 points. Mohamed holds the fastest 8k time in the PBC this season.
