Box Score 2 NEWBERRY, S.C. – Augusta University softball dropped a nonconference doubleheader at Newberry on Tuesday afternoon at the Smith Rd. Complex. The Jaguars fell 2-1 in game one before dropping game two 10-2.
Game 1: Newberry 2, Augusta 1
Newberry scored once in the second inning and added another run in the fourth to hold off Augusta 2-1 in the opener.
Ansley Gibson led Augusta offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate. The Jaguars were held scoreless through six innings before Gibson tied the game with a solo home run to right center in the top of the seventh.
Newberry answered with the go-ahead run in the bottom half to secure the win.
In the circle, Gibson went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out one.
Nevaeh Ross recorded a single for Augusta in the sixth inning, while the Jaguars finished with four hits and committed no errors.
Game 2: Newberry 10, Augusta 2 (6 innings)
Newberry jumped out early in the second game, scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The Wolves added four runs in the third to extend the lead.
Augusta got on the board in the top of the second when Eden Parker hit a solo home run to left field. The Jaguars added a second run in the third as Madalyn Spinks singled to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI groundout by Gibson.
Parker finished 1-for-1 with a home run, an RBI, and two walks. Gibson went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Payton Terrell and Sydney Gilbert each recorded a hit as Augusta totaled six hits in the game.
Spinks started in the circle, while Kristyn Ezzo pitched two innings in relief and recorded three strikeouts.
