Augusta Falls in PBC Semifinals, Awaits NCAA Regional Selection

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Augusta pushed Lander to five sets in Saturday's Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal but came up short, 3–2, at Flagler Gym. The Jaguars move to 25–8 overall and will now await Sunday night's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional selection show. AU entered the week at No. 6 in the regional rankings.

Augusta opened the match with a strong first set, hitting .250 and limiting Lander to nine kills to secure a 25–15 win. Lander answered with a tight 25–23 victory in the second and carried that momentum into the third frame, using a .375 hitting performance to take a 2–1 match lead.

The Jaguars responded in the fourth, using steady sideout play and timely swings to force a fifth set with a 25–22 win. Lander regained control early in the deciding frame and held off an Augusta push to close out the match, 15–11.

Sofiia Snitsarevych paced Augusta with 12 kills, five aces, six blocks, and nine digs, finishing with a team-high 21 points. Layne Witherspoon also reached double figures with 12 kills and added two solo blocks. Angela Mateos contributed six kills and five total blocks, while Patrycja Kabala provided an efficient six kills on 16 swings (.250).

Setter Mia Saavedra totaled 27 assists and 13 digs, and Sydney Harrington added 13 assists and 14 digs. Libero Giulia Rodrigues finished with a match-high 25 digs.

Augusta hit .126 as a team while posting 16 total blocks, including three solo.

With the loss, the Jaguars now turn their attention to the NCAA Division II selection show. The Southeast Regional begins December 4 and is expected to be hosted by South Atlantic Conference champion Wingate.
