Jaguars Use Strong Second Half to Defeat Paine in Richmond County Education Day Rivalry Matchup

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta men's basketball used a strong second half to erase a halftime deficit and earn a 73–57 win over Paine in Tuesday's Richmond County Education Day Game at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars move to 4–5 on the season, while Paine moves to 4-4.

Paine led 37–28 at the break after shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 50.0 percent (6-for-12) from three in the opening half. Augusta responded after halftime, outscoring Paine 45–20 over the final 20 minutes and limiting the visitors to 27.3 percent shooting and 0-for-8 from beyond the arc in the second half. The Jaguars finished the day 23-for-52 from the field, 6-for-26 from three, and 21-for-29 at the line, converting 16 Paine turnovers into 23 points.

Charlie McBeath recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, adding four assists, two blocks, and two steals in 35 minutes. Luis Nonfon followed with 15 points and six rebounds, going 7-for-10 at the free throw line. Elias Palsson added 14 points and three rebounds while shooting 7-for-10 at the stripe.

Off the bench, Tobias Prall supplied 12 points and six rebounds, knocking down three three-pointers. Matias Zanotto added eight points and four boards, and Rodney Scott finished with two points, four assists, and two steals from the starting backcourt. Augusta held a 38–31 rebounding advantage, including 12 offensive boards, and owned a 30–14 edge in points in the paint and a 17–9 margin in second-chance points.

Paine was led by Jocqua Keaton, who scored 18 points with six rebounds and four made threes. Calvin Johnson added 12 points and four rebounds, while Kole Taylor chipped in 11 points. Jeremiah White finished with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Augusta returns to Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Dec. 3, for Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night and the Peach Belt Conference opener against Flagler.
