Augusta, Ga. -In a tough game that came down to the ninth inning, Augusta fell to undefeated Francis Marion, 8-7, at Jaguar Field on Tuesday. The Jaguars are now 1-8 on the year, while the Patriots improve to 8-0.
The game was tied at six entering the ninth when Francis Marion pushed two runs across to take the lead. Augusta got one back after Wyatt Talik singled with one out in the inning. He scored on a Jake Vachon RBI single, making it 8-7, but Vachon was stranded on second when the game ended.
Augusta grabbed the early lead in the first after Parker Ingram singled and advanced to third on a fielding error. He scored on an Aidan Cannaday single.
The Patriots scored four straight runs, but Augusta battled back, putting five runs on the board in the fifth inning. Talik, Rushton Bowles, Vachon, and Ty McClintock each delivered run-scoring singles. Nolan Turner then added a sacrifice fly to score Vachon for the fifth run of the inning.
The Jaguars finished the game with 12 hits, led by Talik, Bowles, Vachon, Zach Kwiatkowski, and McClintock, each recording two hits. Vachon also drove in a pair of runs.
On the mound, Jagger Iovinelli made his first start of the year, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up just five hits.
Augusta will next take on Florida Tech, starting Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
