St. Augustine, Fl. - The Augusta men outscored Flagler 17-6 in the final five and a half minutes and walked away with an 81-65 win over the Saints Wednesdsay night on the road. With the win, the Jaguars improve to 15-7 on the year and 9-3 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Saints are now 12-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
Demitri Gardner once again led the way for AU with 24 points on 11 of 15 shooting.
Maximillian Amadasun registered his 14th double-double pouring in 16 points with 14 rebounds.
Evan Joyner had a big night as well with 15 points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot.
John St. Germain III also scored in double figures with 11 points.
It was just a five point Augusta lead with just over five minutes to play before the Jaguars were able to string together several baskets and come up with a big effort on the defensive end as well. Amadasun hit back-to-back baskets to extend the lead to nine and then Gardner would hit a three-pointer giving Augusta a 12 point lead. With a 1:50 to play, Joyner buried a deep three pointer which proved to be a back breaker for the Saints.
Augusta shot 50% from the field and out rebounded Flagler 37-25. The Jaguars also hit on 17 of 23 from the free throw line and only turned the ball over eight times.
Elias Palsson added nine points for AU, all coming in the first half as the Jaguars led by six at the break.
With the win, Augusta remains in a three way tie for second place in the PBC.
Augusta will hit the road again on Saturday when they travel to Americus, Ga. for a battle with Georgia Southwestern.
