13-Run Inning Gives Augusta Doubleheader Split Against Florida Tech

Augusta, Ga- Augusta baseball exploded for a 13-run fifth inning to defeat Florida Tech 16-5 in game two of a doubleheader Friday at Jaguar Field. The Panthers took the opener by a score of 8-4. With the split, Augusta is now 2-10 on the year, while Florida Tech is 5-5.

In the nightcap, the Panthers took a 3-1 lead into the fifth when the Jaguars put together their big inning. With the bases loaded, Jake Vachon singled to right, driving home both Roland Chance and Cameron Strader to tie the game at three. J. Ben Haynes then laid down the perfect squeeze bunt, allowing Ty McClintock to race home, with Haynes reaching safely at first to give the Jaguars their first lead of the game.

Following a bases-loaded walk to Nolan Turner, the Panthers unleashed three wild pitches as they struggled to find the plate. Haynes, Parker Ingram, and Turner all scored on the wild pitches. A Strader walk brought in Mike Morrison, McClintock added a sacrifice fly, and Vachon followed with an RBI single. Ingram then came through with a two-run single, and Turner plated the 13th run of the inning with a single.

Four different Jaguars recorded two hits in game two, with Ingram and Vachon each driving in three runs.

Elijah Durnell picked up the win with a scoreless inning in relief.

In game one, the Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Jaguars got on the board. Ryan Patrick doubled home McClintock for Augusta's first run.

Florida Tech then took an 8-1 lead into the ninth, but AU made things interesting in the bottom half. Morrison singled home Roland Chance, followed by Haynes delivering a two-run single to make it 8-4. The Jaguars brought the tying run to the plate, but the Panthers registered the final out to secure the victory.

The two teams will wrap up the four-game series on Sunday, with first pitch slated for noon.
