Mike Morrison Homers Against Newberry

Newberry, S.C. - Augusta baseball's Mike Morrison hit a two-run homer, but the Jaguars fell to Newberry 10-5 on Tuesday. The Jaguars are now 2-12, while the Wolves improve to 9-3.

Augusta grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Jake Vachon singled and moved to third on a Ty McClintock double before scoring when J. Ben Haynes reached on an error by the third baseman.

The lead was short-lived as Newberry responded by scoring the next 10 runs.

Augusta attempted a late rally. In the seventh, Vachon reached on his second hit of the game, stole second, and later scored on a bases-loaded walk to Haynes. Roland Chance followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing in McClintock for the second run of the inning.

In the eighth, Nolan Turner singled, and with one out, Morrison launched his first home run of the season.

Gavin Zoeller was solid in relief, tossing four innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three.

The Jaguars begin conference play on Friday when they host USC Beaufort at Jaguar Field. The first game of the three-game series is set for 2:30 p.m.
