AUGUSTA, GA- The Augusta bats came to life and picked up their first conference win of the year by beating USC Beaufort 8-6 Saturday night at Jaguar Field. With the victory, Augusta is now 1-1 in Peach Belt Conference play and 3-13 overall. The Sand Sharks are 1-1 in the conference and 3-11 overall.
Nolan Turner,
Parker Ingram and
Rushton Bowles each collect three hits on the night.
Zach Kwiatkowski, Turner and Bowles each drove in a pair of runs.Â
The Jaguars started the scoring in the second inning. After Kwiatkowski walked, he would advance to third on a Bowles single and score on a sacrifice fly by
Jackson Thomas.Â
They would take a 3-0 lead in the third as they plated two runs with two outs in the inning. Kwiatkowski would single home Ingram and then Bowles would deliver another RBI hit.Â
The Sand Sharks would respond and tie the game at four going to the sixth inning. In the bottom half of the frame, the Jaguars would retake the lead. Turner would single to left as
Jake Vachon and
J. Ben Haynes would score. Ingram would double home Turner for the third run of the inning and take a 7-4 lead.Â
USC Beaufort would add two more runs making it 7-6, but Kwiatkowski would add some insurance with a RBI single that scored Ingram with the eighth run of the game.Â
On the mound,
Robert Hunt started and pitched five solid innings. Hunt gave up one run on five hits and registered nine strikeouts in his longest appearance of the young season.Â
Caleb Jatko pitched the sixth and then in the ninth,Â
Griffin Stewart would pick up his first save of the year.Â
Augusta and USC Beaufort wrap up the three-game series Sunday with first pitch at 1 p.m.Â
